story published! story accepted! (and other updates) :)

"Emerging From Cover" is now available from the publisher or on Amazon.

My fantasy novel Men and Dragons will be published by MuseItUp Publishing in 2013.  It will be an ebook with a possibility of going to print if it sells enough copies.  I am currently working on edits with content editor Nancy Bell.  It's going pretty well but I haven't been able to work as quickly as I'd like.

Belated note that my short Regency buddy story is posted here: http://bailey-montagne.livejournal.com/7120.html with beautiful art here by Mella68. Unfortunately I was unable to get a beta so there may be some mistakes. :)

I am using my Livejournal account more lately for updates, since I am better able to access it.  I don't know how much I'll be able to update here.

take care,
~Bailey~

My Cover Art

Emerging From Cover, by Bailey Montagne

Okay, I realize I may be biased... but isn't this just about the BEST COVER ART EVER??? :D :D :D

I LOVE that green! The design is just... I adore it!! Green is my favorite color and this is now my favorite color of green... so bright and inviting yet secretive. I couldn't be more thrilled. :)

fanfic to original?

As many of you know, I created this pen name as an extension of my online fanfiction writing. I've learned so much from writing fanfiction, and I've received so much support and encouragement, I really feel like I've grown as a writer.

However as I found myself branching out into AUs (alternate universe stories) that started to feel more and more like original work, I decided to make this penname.

I don't believe in doing like the author of Fifty Shades of Gray and posting online, then selling. I have changed some of my AUs to original work, and some I haven't. But if I try to convert a fanfiction story to original fiction, I don't post it online anywhere. Then I make the changes I feel it requires. (I never do this, by the way, unless I feel like the story is already nearly original fiction!) Then if I submit the story, I tell the publisher how the story got its start. I think that's only fair.

Would the author of Fifty Shades of Gray have done so well for herself if she'd followed this route? Probably not. But that doesn't really change what I feel is the right way to handle this.

I'm currently working on an AU fanfic story that feels original to me. I'm contemplating taking it the rest of the way. It's not a light decision. I want the story to be the best it can be, whatever it's really MEANT to be. I want that for each of my stories.

publishing news

My novella, "Emerging From Cover," is scheduled to be released May 25, 2012~!

The edits haven't started yet. *gulp*

I sent a 44,000 word novel (It Runs in the Family), to Musa Publishing on March 31st. I'm a little too nervous to talk much about it yet. :) The good news so far is that they said I don't have to write query letters to them anymore. I can just send the WHOLE manuscript and a synopsis! I really like the sound of that. :-D

I haven't worked on Knight and Wizard the way I meant to: I've been busy with other things and am not entirely certain how I'm going to "fix" this story. It's very special to me, somehow, so I don't want to change it too much.
